The business is investing heavily in its fleet and has a clear commercial growth plan in place. This is a key appointment for the business and, for the right person, offers genuine long term career development and the opportunity to make a real impact across the transport operation.

This role would suit someone who is confident managing people, vehicles, planning, compliance and day to day transport issues, while also maintaining excellent service levels for customers. We are looking for a Transport Manager who is hands on, commercially aware and customer focused. You will need to be comfortable dealing with drivers, customers, suppliers and internal teams, making sure the operation runs smoothly and any issues are dealt with quickly and professionally.

Experience within a fast paced, compliance focused transport environment would be beneficial, but the main priority is finding someone with strong transport management experience, good compliance knowledge and the ability to lead a busy operation properly.

The Role

  • As Transport Manager, you will support the safe, efficient and compliant running of the transport operation.
  • You will work closely with planners, drivers, customers and senior management to make sure vehicles, drivers and resources are managed effectively, service levels are maintained and customer expectations are met.
  • This is a hands on role, suited to someone who is organised, practical and comfortable working in a fast moving transport environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day transport operation
  • Support planning activity, driver allocation and vehicle utilisation
  • Lead, support and develop drivers and transport office staff
  • Make sure the operation runs safely, efficiently and in line with customer expectations
  • Maintain strong communication with customers, drivers, suppliers and internal teams
  • Resolve customer and operational issues quickly and professionally
  • Monitor driver hours, working time, vehicle standards and transport compliance
  • Support the reduction of infringements and promote best practice across the operation
  • Make sure vehicles and trailers are available for service, inspection and compliance requirements
  • Review daily transport performance and look for ways to improve the operation
  • Support route planning, scheduling and resource management where required
  • Maintain accurate records across internal systems
  • Keep a strong focus on health, safety and operational standards
  • Build strong working relationships with customers and key contacts
  • Support the senior management team with operational and commercial decisions when needed

What We Are Looking For

  • Previous experience as a Transport Manager, Transport Supervisor, Traffic Manager, Fleet Manager or Senior Transport Planner
  • Strong experience within a busy transport or logistics operation
  • Good understanding of transport compliance, driver hours and fleet requirements
  • Confident leadership skills
  • Experience managing drivers or transport office teams
  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills
  • The ability to communicate confidently with customers, drivers and internal teams
  • Strong problem solving and decision making ability
  • The ability to manage changing priorities throughout the day
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail
  • A proactive and hands on approach
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and transport systems
  • A calm and professional approach when dealing with operational issues
  • A Transport Manager CPC would be beneficial, although strong operational experience, leadership ability, compliance knowledge and customer focus will be key.

Why Apply?

This is a strong opportunity for a Transport Manager who wants more than just a maintenance role. The company is growing, investing in its fleet and looking for someone who can help support the next stage of its operational development.

The role offers:

  • Salary of £40,000 to £50,000 depending on experience
  • Permanent opportunity with a growing transport business
  • Investment in fleet and operational growth
  • Genuine long term career development
  • A varied and responsible management role
  • Supportive senior management team
  • The chance to improve processes and make a real difference
  • A hands on role where you will be close to the operation
