Winsearch UK is proud to partner with a specialist contractor in the roofing, cladding and wider building envelope sector, who is looking to add a Technical Surveyor to their technical team. This is a hands-on role sitting between site surveys, technical design, drawing coordination and material scheduling. It would suit someone with a roofing, cladding or envelope background who enjoys being out on site, but is also confident working with drawings, measurements, schedules and suppliers.
As a Technical Surveyor, you'll carry out detailed roof and building envelope surveys across new build, refurbishment and re-roofing projects. You'll then turn that site information into technical layouts, drawing briefs and material schedules, working closely with draughtspeople, site teams, manufacturers and suppliers to make sure projects are measured, drawn, ordered and delivered properly. This role will be mixed between office and site based work - you'll be regularly visiting sites, working at height, taking measurements, recording details and helping resolve technical queries.
What you'll be doing:
- Carrying out measured surveys of roofs and external envelope areas
- Producing accurate notes, sketches, dimensions and photographic records
- Recording roof conditions, penetrations, upstands, drainage and fixing substrates
- Turning survey information into technical layouts and system designs
- Producing panel schedules, fixing patterns and material quantities
- Identifying bespoke details and non-standard site conditions
- Liaising with manufacturers on technical guidance, approvals and calculations
- Briefing draughtspeople on drawings and detail requirements
- Reviewing construction drawings before issue
- Coordinating drawing approvals, comments and resubmissions
- Producing material schedules for sheets, panels, flashings, fixings and associated components
- Supporting procurement with supplier quotes and material orders
- Providing technical support to site teams during installation
- Maintaining survey records, drawing registers, schedules and project files
What they're looking for:
- Experience in a surveying, technical, design or coordination role within roofing, cladding or building envelope
- Good understanding of commercial or industrial roof surveys
- Knowledge of metal roofing or cladding systems
- Experience with systems such as profiled sheeting, standing seam, secret-fix or composite panels
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
- Experience producing or coordinating construction drawings
- Confident producing material schedules and quantities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Comfortable working at height
- Good Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel to sites across the UK
Useful experience:
- AutoCAD or drawing mark-ups
- Built-up roof and wall cladding systems
- Composite roof / wall cladding
- Flat roofing or rainscreen cladding
- U-values, condensation risk or acoustic requirements
- Design and build contracts
- PASMA or IPAF
The type of person who'll do well:
This role will suit someone practical, accurate and technically minded. You'll need to be confident going to site, taking ownership of surveys, spotting issues and bringing the right information back into the business. Just as importantly, you'll need to be organised and detail-focused, as mistakes in measurements, drawings or material schedules can have a direct impact on cost and programme.
What's in it for you:
- £38,000 - £52,000 salary depending on experience
- Company car or car allowance
- Fuel card
- Company performance-related bonus
- 5% employer pension contribution
- 33 days annual leave including bank holidays
- Phone and laptop
- Professional membership support
- CPD budget
- Varied role across site surveys, technical design, drawings and procurement
