We are recruiting on behalf of a highly advanced precision engineering business looking to appoint an experienced CNC / Maintenance Service Engineer to join their in-house engineering team. This opportunity has arisen due to a long-serving Maintenance Engineer approaching retirement. The business is looking to recruit ahead of time to allow a structured handover and knowledge transfer period, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to work closely alongside an experienced engineer and gain valuable machine-specific knowledge. The site operates highly technical 5-axis CNC machinery, requiring a strong mechanically biased engineer with excellent fault-finding and diagnostic capability across mechanical, electrical and PLC-controlled systems. This is a technically challenging role suited to an engineer who genuinely enjoys solving complex engineering problems rather than simply replacing components.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance across advanced 5-axis CNC machinery
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and control system faults
  • Support machine reliability, uptime and continuous improvement activities
  • Fault find across PLC systems, electrical controls, drives, motors and machine electronics
  • Carry out machine inspections, servicing and corrective maintenance
  • Work closely with production and engineering teams to minimise downtime
  • Support machine installations, upgrades and modification projects where required
  • Maintain maintenance records and support engineering documentation activities
  • Work alongside the existing senior engineer during the handover period to gain machine and process knowledge

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong mechanically biased maintenance engineer
  • Experience working on CNC machinery, ideally multi-axis or 5-axis equipment
  • Good understanding of:
    • Electrical systems
    • Machine electronics
    • PLC diagnostics and fault finding
  • Previous CNC field service or CNC service engineer experience preferred
  • Calm, methodical and practical approach to problem solving
  • Strong fault-finding mindset with the ability to diagnose root causes effectively
  • Engineer who enjoys technically challenging machinery and complex problem solving

IDEAL BACKGROUND

  • This role would particularly suit an experienced CNC Service Engineer who has spent years travelling and is now looking for:
    • A stable, long-term in-house engineering position
    • Less time away from home
    • Better work/life balance
    • The opportunity to apply broad technical knowledge within one advanced manufacturing facility

WHAT'S ON OFFER

  • Exceptional salary for the right engineer
  • Long-term stable opportunity within a highly advanced manufacturing environment
  • Extensive handover and mentoring from a highly experienced senior engineer
  • Technically interesting and varied engineering challenges
  • Opportunity to become a key long-term member of the engineering team
  • Modern precision engineering environment with advanced CNC technology

WHY APPLY?

This is an outstanding opportunity for a high-calibre maintenance engineer who still enjoys genuine engineering fault finding and wants to work within a technically advanced environment without the demands of constant travel. You'll be joining a business that values engineering expertise and is committed to ensuring a proper transition and long-term investment in the right individual.
