We are recruiting for a Business Development Manager to join an established business operating within the freight and logistics sector. This is a commercially focused role for someone who wants the freedom to build their own pipeline, win new customers, grow existing accounts and maximise their earning potential. You will need to be confident, proactive and highly self-motivated, with the tenacity and resilience to keep pushing opportunities forward and convert them into long-term revenue.
The Role
You will take ownership of developing and growing customer relationships, with a strong focus on new business generation alongside account development and involvement with the operational delivery of freight solutions. Responsibilities will include:
- Proactively identifying and winning new business opportunities
- Building and managing your own sales pipeline
- Opening doors with prospective customers and key decision-makers
- Managing and developing existing customer accounts
- Identifying opportunities to increase revenue across existing relationships
- Producing quotations and commercially competitive freight solutions
- Following up leads, enquiries and live sales opportunities
- Negotiating rates and commercial agreements
- Developing long-term customer relationships
- Working closely with customers from initial enquiry through to delivery
- Maintaining strong involvement with the operational side of freight movements
- Liaising with internal teams, suppliers and transport partners
- Maintaining accurate CRM and pipeline information
About You
We are looking for somebody with previous experience within freight forwarding, shipping, logistics or transport who combines strong commercial ability with a solid understanding of freight operations. You will ideally have:
- Experience within freight forwarding or logistics
- A proven background in business development, freight sales or commercial account management
- The confidence and drive to win new customers and create your own opportunities
- A strong commercial mindset and ability to spot revenue opportunities
- Good understanding of freight operations and the customer journey
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
- A proactive, self-motivated and resilient approach
- The tenacity required to succeed in a target-driven sales environment
- The ability to build long-term relationships once business has been secured
