The Company

Our client is a well-established and internationally recognised food manufacturing business supplying products into major UK and global markets. With a strong focus on operational excellence, quality, food safety and continuous improvement, they are looking to appoint an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to lead and develop the site HSE function.

This is a key leadership role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, focused on driving a proactive safety culture, ensuring legal compliance and supporting continuous improvement across the operation.

The Role

The Health, Safety and Environmental Manager will take full responsibility for the site HSE strategy, systems and compliance standards across the manufacturing operation. You will work closely with leadership, production and engineering teams to drive behavioural safety improvements, manage audits and investigations, and ensure the site maintains the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and food safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the site Health, Safety and Environmental strategy
  • Ensure full compliance with UK HSE legislation including HASAWA, COSHH and RIDDOR
  • Act as the site lead for all health and safety matters across the operation
  • Maintain and continuously improve the site HSE management systems and policies
  • Conduct and manage risk assessments, safe systems of work and method statements
  • Lead accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Drive a proactive safety culture and promote behavioural safety initiatives across site
  • Manage external audits, inspections and relationships with enforcing authorities and insurers
  • Deliver and coordinate HSE training across the business
  • Coach and support managers and supervisors to take ownership of safety within their departments
  • Support environmental initiatives including waste reduction, energy efficiency and pollution control
  • Promote employee engagement through toolbox talks, safety committees and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support food safety culture initiatives to ensure product safety, quality and legality standards are maintained

The Person:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum, NEBOSH Diploma highly desirable
  • IOSH membership desirable, GradIOSH or CMIOSH advantageous
  • Proven experience within a Health and Safety leadership role in food manufacturing or FMCG
  • Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation and management systems, ISO 45001 experience preferred
  • Experience conducting audits, investigations and risk assessments within manufacturing environments
  • Strong understanding of food manufacturing risks including machinery, allergens, chemicals and hygiene standards
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Pragmatic and solutions focused approach with strong organisational skills
  • Passionate about driving continuous improvement and developing a positive safety culture
