Electrical Maintenance Engineer
Location: Birmingham
Pay: £18.75 per hour
Contract: Temporary, initially until Christmas
Hours: Rotating 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm shifts
About the role
Are you an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer with a background in manufacturing? We are recruiting for a hands‑on temporary opportunity within a busy Engineering department in Birmingham.
Key responsibilities
- Provide ongoing maintenance support within the Engineering department, identifying issues, analysing equipment and system malfunctions, and recommending corrective action.
- Complete approved repairs and modifications under the direction of the Plant Engineers or Plant Engineering Manager, monitoring solutions to confirm their effectiveness.
- Diagnose faults on PLC-controlled machinery and repair electrical faults on production machinery and associated equipment.
- Carry out electrical inspections, testing and routine maintenance in line with company procedures.
- Complete planned preventive maintenance on plant machinery and equipment.
- Assist with the commissioning of new machinery, automation and production equipment.
- Supervise shift technicians and apprentices assigned to your shift, providing advice and guidance where appropriate.
- Support the Plant Engineering Manager with the implementation and enforcement of procedures, ensuring deadlines are met in line with agreed working practices.
- Help develop colleagues to agreed company standards in working practices and processes.
- Regularly check instrumentation quality to ensure production, safety and legal requirements are met.
- Support project work as required.
- Liaise with Manufacturing Engineers and Managers to ensure departmental needs are met promptly and efficiently.
- Provide technical advice and support with troubleshooting, problem-solving and project delivery.
Skills and experience
- An Advanced Apprenticeship, HNC or higher qualification in electrical, mechanical or a related engineering discipline.
- Recognised Electrical Engineering or Maintenance qualifications.
- The ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Previous maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment.
- A working knowledge of hydraulics and/or pneumatics.
- IET BS 7671 17th Edition would be advantageous.
- Experience in a general machining workshop, including turning, milling and fitting using manual tools, would be advantageous.
