E&I Technician (Level 2 – Progression to Level 3)

My client, who is a leading global producer of specialty chemicals, polymer additives and precursors, is looking for an E&I Technician to join their team.
The Role:
The E&I Technician (Level 2) supports the safe and reliable operation of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems at a high-hazard Upper Tier COMAH chemical manufacturing site. Reporting to the E&I Coordinator, the role focuses on carrying out planned maintenance, fault-finding, and corrective work while developing the technical and behavioural competencies required to progress to Level 3.
This position is ideal for a competent E&I Technician who is confident working independently on routine tasks and is ready to broaden their technical capability, problem-solving skills, and ownership of plant systems.
Responsibilities:
· Carry out planned preventive maintenance and routine breakdown maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems under established procedures.
· Assist with fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of electrical, control, and instrumentation equipment, escalating complex issues where required.
· Install, maintain, and test electrical and instrumentation equipment, including work in hazardous areas in line with ATEX requirements and site standards.
· Work in compliance with the site Permit to Work system, including accepting permits where authorised.
· Accurately complete work orders, maintenance records, and time recording using the Engineering Management System.
· Use the company ERP system to request materials and services as required for maintenance activities.
· Support plant improvement and reliability initiatives under the guidance of senior technicians or the E&I Coordinator.
· Maintain strict adherence to all health, safety, environmental, and COMAH requirements.
The Candidate:
Essential
- COMAH site experience or highly regulated environment.
- Time-served Instrument/Electrical Maintenance Engineer or equivalent with proven experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- NVQ Level 3 / HNC Level 3 in Electrical Installation or a related discipline.
- Trained to the 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
- Working knowledge of electrical and instrumentation maintenance, including calibration and basic fault-finding.
- Experience or exposure to hazardous area equipment and ATEX requirements.
- Able to follow procedures, prioritise tasks, and work safely in a high-hazard environment.
- Comfortable using computer-based maintenance and ERP systems.
- Good communication skills and a willingness to learn and develop.
Desirable / Development Toward Level 3
- CompEx Ex01–Ex06 certification (or working toward).
- Increasing confidence in independent fault diagnosis and problem resolution.
- Willingness to expand skills in controls, instrumentation, and process systems.
- Cherry Picker (MEWP) experience.
