About the Role
Winner Recruitment are recruiting for experienced Mechanical Fitters to join our client's busy operations in Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for skilled maintenance professionals to join a fast-paced industrial environment, ensuring plant and machinery operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. There are opportunities available on both day and night shifts, offering flexibility for candidates looking for a preferred working pattern.
You will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across a range of fixed plant equipment. Working closely with the Engineering and Operations teams, you will play a key role in maximising equipment reliability, improving performance, and reducing downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on fixed plant machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Inspect, service, and repair conveyors, shredders, balers, and associated plant systems.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and complete repairs efficiently to minimise production downtime.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergency maintenance requirements.
- Support scheduled maintenance programmes and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with the installation, commissioning, and testing of new equipment.
- Work closely with Engineering and Operations teams to improve plant reliability and performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment efficiency and reduce recurring faults.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and in line with health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, including inspections, repairs, and parts used.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and compliant working environment.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in mechanical maintenance, plant maintenance, engineering, or a similar hands-on role.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance.
- Good knowledge of fixed plant machinery and industrial equipment.
- Experience working with conveyors, shredders, balers, or similar equipment is desirable.
- Ability to work safely within a busy operational environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable, proactive, and flexible approach to work.
- Commitment to maintaining high health, safety, and environmental standards.
- A relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Plant Maintenance, or a related discipline is advantageous.
- Experience within waste management, recycling, manufacturing, quarrying, aggregates, or other heavy industrial environments would be beneficial.
