We're recruiting on behalf of our client for a Transport Supervisor to join their busy and fast-paced transport operation based in Pineham, Northampton. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established logistics business in a permanent role, where you'll play a key part in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the transport operation.
The Role
Working on the AM shift, you'll oversee the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring deliveries and collections are completed safely, efficiently and on time. Flexibility is essential, as start and finish times may vary to meet the needs of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily transport operation and support a team of drivers.
- Ensure all routes are planned and executed efficiently.
- Monitor vehicle and driver compliance, ensuring all legal and company requirements are met.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, warehouse teams and customers to resolve operational issues.
- Manage driver briefings and debriefings.
- Monitor KPIs and support continuous improvements within the transport function.
- Deal with transport queries and operational challenges in a proactive manner.
- Ensure accurate completion of transport documentation and system updates.
- Promote a strong health & safety culture across the operation.
About You
We're looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience in a Transport Supervisor or Transport Team Leader role.
- A good understanding of transport legislation, including drivers' hours and Working Time Directive.
- Experience within a busy logistics or distribution environment.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and people management abilities.
- Good IT skills, with experience using transport management systems (TMS).
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and make effective operational decisions.
- A flexible approach to working hours to support the needs of the operation.
