Job Title: Field Service Engineer – Large Shovels/Excavators
Location: Braintree
Position Type: Full-Time – Perm
Pay rate: £15.00-£19.00ph (after 40 hours paid at 1.5x)
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Field Service Engineer to support, maintain, and repair large mining and construction equipment, specifically hydraulic shovels and excavators. This role involves hands-on technical expertise, problem-solving in the field, and delivering high-quality service to ensure maximum equipment uptime and performance.
Key Responsibilities

Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on large hydraulic shovels and excavators (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems).

Conduct field inspections and preventative maintenance programs to minimize unplanned downtime.

Accurately identify equipment faults and determine corrective actions in a timely manner.

Provide technical support, training, and guidance to customers and operators on equipment use and care.

Prepare detailed service reports, including diagnostics performed, parts used, and work completed.

Collaborate with engineering and product support teams to resolve complex technical issues.

Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies while working on-site.

Manage tools, parts, and equipment inventory effectively while in the field.
Qualifications & Skills

Trade certification, degree, or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Heavy Equipment Engineering (or equivalent experience).

Proven experience in servicing large mining/construction equipment, particularly hydraulic shovels and excavators.

Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, electrical systems, and machine control systems.

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.

Competence in using diagnostic software and tools.

Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong focus on safety and quality.

Effective communication and customer service skills.

Willingness to travel frequently and work independently in field environments.
Preferred Experience

OEM or dealer background in heavy mining equipment.

Experience with brands such as Caterpillar, Hitachi, Komatsu, or Liebherr.
