About the Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Plumber/Mechanical Engineer to join a leading industrial facility, supporting the maintenance, installation, and optimisation of high-pressure mechanical systems across the site. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe and reliable operation of steam systems, pipework, and biomass equipment within a fast-paced industrial environment. This is a hands-on role well suited to an engineer with strong experience working across manufacturing, industrial services, energy, or similar heavy-engineering settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out mechanical maintenance, installation, and repair across industrial plant and machinery
- Work on steam systems, including high-pressure pipework, valves, boilers, heat exchangers, and associated plant
- Complete pipefitting and fabrication works (copper, steel, stainless, welded, crimped)
- Diagnose and resolve breakdowns on mechanical, hydraulic, and high-pressure systems
- Plan and carry out PPM schedules to minimise downtime
- Ensure all works comply with health & safety regulations and site procedures
- Support site upgrades, refurbishments and new equipment commissioning
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure full compliance documentation
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer within an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Strong background in pipefitting, including installation, testing and repair
- Experience working on steam systems and high-pressure plant (essential)
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with BIOMASS systems (boilers, burners, fuel feed systems)
- Ability to read technical drawings, schematics and P&IDs
- Experience working with pumps, valves, boilers, and pressure equipment
- Strong awareness of health & safety and safe-system-of-work processes (PTW, LOTO, RAMS)
- NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent desirable
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or within a team
