The predicted salary is between 25000 - 35000 £ per year.

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting directly to the R&D Manager, the Development Chemist is responsible for:
  • Ensuring a safe system of work.
  • Complying with relevant Health & Safety procedures.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping within the laboratory environment.
  • Contributing to a positive working environment.
  • Following company management systems procedures to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
  • Leading short- and long-term projects devising experiments, documenting results, writing up reports and presenting findings relating to:
  • Formulation of new products, specifications and test methods,
  • Optimisation and modification of existing products, specifications and test methods,
  • Investigation and testing of competitor products,
  • Factory optimisation and development trials,
  • Investigation of customer feedback.
  • Providing Technical support to support the following:
    • Raw material procurement
    • Production methods
    • Quality control
    • Customers & sales
    • Investigation of customer feedback.
  • Utilising a range of analytical techniques, operating test programmes and equipment (including equipment maintenance).
  • Identify risks, opportunities, non-conformities, and potential non-conformances.
  • Conducting Internal auditing.
  • Assisting in the compilation of Safety Data Sheets, COSHH and Risk Assessments (training to be given).
  • Representing the company on Standards Committees, and professional bodies.
  • Any other duties as directed that may arise from time-to-time and as set out in the Company Handbook.
  • A. Essential Factors

    • Degree in Science related field.
    • Experience of laboratory work (approximately 2 years).
    • IT literacy to high standard (Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams & others).
    • Experience with managing own projects & meeting deadlines.
    • Ability to communicate effectively within the team and with other departments throughout the company, to ensure harmonious working relationships and to promote a positive working environment.
    • An open, flexible, proactive, and positive approach towards work & can-do attitude.
    • Good time keeping and punctuality.
    • Good housekeeping and organisational skills.
    • Ability to interpret data, undertake descriptive and statistical analysis and report results.
    • Ability to prioritise own work in response to deadlines.
    • Ability to use own initiative and work independently and as part of a team, as required.
    • Ability to work with limited supervision and keep meticulous records.
    • Ability and willingness to adapt to changing timetables or work patterns as dictated by changing circumstances and deadlines.
    • Willingness to undertake any necessary training for the role.

    B. Desirable Factors

    • Knowledge of anticorrosion surface coatings and sealants.
    • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 Management Systems.
    • Knowledge of international methods and standards (ASTM, ISO, NACE, etc.) related to corrosion protection, petroleum and natural gas industries.
    • Experience with use of lab equipment such as: rheometer, tensometer, impactor and cathodic disbondment testers.

    C. Assessment

    • The applicant shall provide CV and cover letter, detailing information that supports the items listed in (A) and (B) above.
    • Selected applicants will be invited for an initial video interview (held remotely via Microsoft Teams), to assess factors listed in (A).
    • Successful applicants will then be invited for a second interview on site, in which they will be asked to perform some basic tasks / tests.
    • A third interview with members of Top Management may take place for suitable candidates.
    • Applicants will be asked to provide references in relation to (A) above.

    Other Information

    • Please note: applicants must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application, as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship.
    • Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
    • Annual Salary: £30,000- 35,000 (DOE)
    • Working Location: Denso House, 33-35 Chapel Road, West Norwood, London, SE27 0TR
    • Working Hours: 35 Hours per week
    • Working Schedule: Monday – Friday, flexitime (one-hour unpaid lunch break daily)
    • Flexitime: start between 7 and 10am, finish between 3 and 6pm & possibility to finish from 1pm on Fridays (when 35 working hours have been achieved).
    • Probation period: 6 months
    • Annual leave entitlement: 22 days + Bank Holidays
    • Other benefits will be discussed during interviews.
