Role and Responsibilities
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Simplified Chinese linguist (with drinks industry subject matter expertise in wine) to ensure accurate and high-quality translation of educational content. The candidates must be fluent in English and have native level Simplified Chinese and would join our team on a freelance basis. The ideal candidates have a passion for accuracy, education and effective communication. This role involves reviewing translations, proofreading and copy editing for accuracy, fluency and clarity and ensuring the precision of primarily wine-related, but also beer and spirits-related content, terminology and translation memory.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Review and Quality Assurance: Review translated exam papers and course content in Simplified Chinese to ensure accuracy and adherence to industry and professional standards. Verify the correct usage of terminology and industry language in educational materials. Ensure that the final translation is of high quality, meets industry expectations and is free from any technical inaccuracies.
- Wine Knowledge Consultation: Act as a consultant to provide insights and guidance on wine-related topics and terminology in the target language(s). Assist the Localisation Team with linguistic queries throughout the project localisation process.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with content creators and other teams to ensure technical accuracy in wine-related materials in the target language(s). Collaborate with WSET’s Localisation Team, other linguists and technical editors to discuss and establish translations for key terminology.
Requirements
- Certification: minimum WSET Level 2 in Wines or equivalent certificate; Level 3 Wines or equivalent highly preferred
- Must be a professional translator/linguist
- Native command of Simplified Chinese
- Experience with CAT tools or any translation-assisted software (XTM preferred)
- Proven expertise in content review and editorial processes
- Good command of English at CEFR B2/C1 level or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, error-free work
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
Preferred Skills
- Experience working in a multicultural or multilingual environment
- Familiarity with printed and digital content creation tools or platforms
- A keen interest in wine education and advancing global wine knowledge
- Previous experience in teaching, training or educational roles in the wine industry desirable
