Glennon Brothers supplies both the Irish and UK markets with products for the construction, pallet wood and fencing industries. It also manufactures timber frame homes and engineered roof trusses for the house building sector. It has over 900 employees with plants in Troon, Edinburgh and Inverness in Scotland, Enniskillen in Northern Ireland and Longford and Fermoy in Ireland. Its people, a commitment to service, and ongoing investment in new technology are core to the business. Over the past four years it invested over €50 million across the Group including value added processing in Fermoy and a state-of-the-art combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Troon.
As the company prepares for continued growth and investment, Glennon Brothers is now seeking to appoint a Mechanical Supervisor for our Windymains site.
Job Description
- Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate management and mechanical experience gained within heavy industry.
- They will also possess an in-depth knowledge of Timber processing, hydraulics, pneumatics and vehicle maintenance.
- Acting as a champion for Mechanical improvements and promoting best practice for the plant.
- Day to day management of the mechanical team.
- Delivering improvements projects to plant; formulating financial plans and executing work.
- Applying preventative and predictive maintenance practices and contributing to plant improvements.
- Highlighting long term plant risks to senior management, assisting with repair plans.
- Ensuring sustainable performance aligned to plant objectives, values and behaviours.
- Preparing and managing obsolescence and replacement plans.
- Monitoring completion of mechanical tasks through spot checks, following up with feedback.
- Working alongside the Electrical Supervisor to make improvements to old and new systems.
- Identifying skills gaps within the mechanical team, building plans for development including 1-2-1s and PDPs, supporting longer term retention and succession planning.
- Ensuring Statutory inspections are carried out in line with legislation, and follow on work created from these inspections has been completed.
- Conducting weekly safety briefings, whilst actively participating in near hit reporting & safety online actions.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience of Planning and inspection.
- Degree or equivalent or HNC.
- Must understand engineering and business principles.
- NEBOSH or IOSH preferable.
- Financial management and budget control.
- Management/supervisory experience of a Mechanical team.
- Sometimes a hands-on approach would be required.
- PLC systems Knowledge and experience a bonus.
- Computer Maintenance Management system experience.
