The Facilities Operative for Waste and External Areas role at the BCA campus involves working 25 hours per week and pays on Scale G of the Support Staff pay scale between G17 £17,218.24 and G19 £18,435.14 (G17 £25,483 up to G19 £27,284 FTE). The role reports directly to the Facilities Supervisor and is responsible for maintaining an outstanding outdoor environment for students and staff.
Working hours are Monday to Friday from 11am to 4.30pm, including a 30-minute lunch break, though these hours remain subject to change. Primary duties include:
- The daily emptying of waste and recycling bins across campus
- Collecting rubbish from college buildings
- Conducting regular litter picking to keep the grounds immaculate
- Keeping bin compounds clean and safe
- Cleaning external windows, signs, and surfaces
- Performing heavy porterage tasks
- Operating college vehicles and machinery
- Specifying required materials
- Liaising with external cleaning contractors
- Using internal IT software
- Supporting college open days, which may occasionally require weekend working
