The predicted salary is between 30000 - 42000 £ per year.
Completely and independently plan and perform all work necessary to make and develop any type of die (i.e. blanking dies, forming dies, draw dies, or progressive dies) combining one or more of the above mentioned types of operation and other like items of the highest degree of complexity for the production of quality products. Determine from sample parts or part drawings which type of die or tool, along with its dimensions, cutting clearances, and other like features as needed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
• Develop, repair, and modify tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges as required.
• Read related work instruction(s) and sign off same for compliance with TS16949.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, drawings, and specifications of tools, dies, prototypes, or models.
• File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
• Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools.
• Position, secure, measure, and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining.
• Work with internal departments for design input, fabrication, and modifications to tools and dies.
• Work with sample parts, tool design drawings, sketches, accepted best practices, oral instructions, or standard tool manuals to required tolerance and performance.
• Safely and skillfully set up, operate, and maintain all machine shop equipment.
• Prepare sketches for machining of tool details. May suggest design changes and/or modifications of tools to facilitate construction or practicability of usage.
• Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
• Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
• Ensure timely completion of repairs, new dies, tooling, fixtures, and jigs etc., as required.
• Estimate hours required to build a complete set of tools and break down individual hours for each detail by machine, if required.
• Inspect and test completed tools, dies, jigs, or fixtures for proper operation.
• Perform tool and die tryout incidental to the work as required.
• Inspect, diagnose, repair and perform preventative maintenance on all tools and dies as required.
• Modify dies and tooling to conform to engineering changes.
• Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
• Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary.
• Ability to utilize troubleshooting skills techniques.
• Maintain a safe and tidy work area at all times, contributing to the continual program of good housekeeping.
• Be knowledgeable and adhere to safe work practices and plant rules. Identify, interpret and apply applicable acts, regulations, codes and directives. Recognize, assess, and control hazards and hazardous conditions, equipment, and material.
• Selecting, wearing, adjusting, using and maintaining personal protective equipment.
• Perform lockout/tagging and restricted access procedures.
EFFORT
• Able to meet all physical demands of the job including, but not limited to, lifting heavy loads, standing for long periods of time, shift rotation, working in hot and cold environments.
• Requires extended periods of standing at various workstations.
• Requires some physical effort such as lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, and bending.
• Requires hand eye co-ordination and manual dexterity.
• Requires sensory concentration, such as visual and touch with attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
RESPONSIBILITY
• Interaction with other staff within the immediate area and communications are generally routine.
• There is a high degree of job structure with prescribed tasks, standards and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Regular exposure to dust, dirt, noise, heat, cold, grease, chemicals.
• Some risk of exposure to bruises, abrasions, minor cuts, etc, resulting in minimal lost time if any.
• Limited risk of exposure to hazardous compounds.
• Requires specialized safety training and wearing personal protective equipment specific to the function.
• Rotating shifts or split shifts on occasion and some overtime.
• Subject to seasonal conditions (hot and cold environments).
