We are currently recruiting for a Banking and Payments Assistant to join our Finance team and play a key role in ensuring the timely and accurate processing of bank transactions, payments, and reconciliations across multiple entities. This role is a 6‑month fixed‑term contract based at our Fourthway, Avonmouth office with flexibility to work from home as part of a hybrid working pattern following a period of training.
The successful candidate will work across both the Cashiers and Payments functions, taking responsibility for specific tasks while supporting the wider team to meet service level agreements and deliver exceptional service to internal and external customers. This is a highly collaborative role, working closely with Credit Control and other Finance teams to maintain accuracy, resolve queries, and support process improvements. You will lead on daily reconciliations, manage payment allocations, and assist with month‑end tasks, while identifying opportunities to streamline processes and contribute to projects. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail‑oriented and analytically driven individual with a strong background in banking or payment processing.
Key Accountabilities- Ensure timely and accurate posting of customer payments, investigating queries as needed.
- Regularly review suspense accounts to minimise unallocated payments.
- Support the Credit Control team with account allocations and payment queries.
- Complete daily and weekly reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances.
- Process journals and paylists for suppliers, including urgent ad‑hoc payments.
- Maintain bank statements and account records, ensuring daily reconciliation.
- Reconcile payments received across multiple providers and resolve related queries.
- Assist with month‑end tasks within required deadlines.
- Identify and suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Participate in projects as required.
- Good general education, including Maths and English (GCSE standard).
- Previous experience in a similar banking or payments role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to analyse large data sets accurately.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong multitasking and prioritisation skills.
- Studying AAT or a desire to do so.
- Tenacious problem‑solving abilities.
- Understanding of excellent customer service standards.
