  • Maidenhead

Is this you?

You play woodwind.

You've taught — or you teach now.

You love talking about instruments with people who really care about them.

And you've sometimes wondered whether there's a job that feels more like your musical life and less like just a job.

If that's you, keep reading. This role was written with you in mind.

What the role looks like

You'll work across the sales floor as part of a close-knit, experienced team.

Every day is different — a professional clarinettist trying a new instrument in the morning, a parent choosing a first trumpet for their child in the afternoon, a teacher looking for reeds they can't find anywhere else.

We use a zone-based structure on the floor, which means you always know what you're responsible for.

Your role isn't just selling.

It's knowing your products deeply, giving advice that's genuinely useful, and being the kind of person customers come back to.

What we're looking for

  • An advanced woodwind player — you play seriously and you know what that feels like from a musician's perspective
  • Teaching experience — you understand how musicians think, what they need, and how to have that conversation
  • Real product knowledge — you can talk about construction, sound, feel, and history with confidence
  • Strong communication — clear, warm and honest with customers and colleagues
  • Comfortable with systems — we use Net Suite and a live appointment diary; we need people who engage with tools rather than avoid them
  • A genuine interest in the Dawkes Academy — we're building a content and training programme and want people who want to be part of it
  • Key Information
  • Contract Full time
  • Hours Monday–Saturday, 5 days per week, 09:30–17:30
  • Location Reform Road, Maidenhead, SL6 8BT
  • Salary Competitive, relevant to experience
  • Closing date 11 May 2026
  • What you'll actually do
  • Woodwind appointments — one-to-one time with customers trying instruments
  • Product advice across the full range, in store, by phone, and online
  • Instrument prep and QC — every instrument that goes to a customer is checked and ready
  • Dawkes Rewards sign-ups — helping customers join our loyalty programme
  • Contributing to Dawkes Academy content alongside the rest of the team
  • Building relationships with local teachers, schools, and players
  • Something worth being part

2026 is our 60th anniversary.

We're not coasting on that — we're building on it.

A new Rewards programme, new Academy content, new supplier partnerships, multiple 60th anniversary events throughout the year.

It's an exciting time to join.

The survey we ran with our team at the end of 2025 told us that 91% of the people here feel connected to why we do this.

That's not an accident.

It's the product of sixty years of caring about musicians.

We'd like to find someone who wants to be part of what comes next.
