Diet Technician, Per Diem
Contributes to the hospital's mission by providing accurate and therapeutic food and nutrition services to patients.
This position impacts patient satisfaction and quality improvement by providing nutritional information and healthy food choices during hospital stays.
Job Responsibilities
- Completes menus with patients, considering allergies, cultural issues, preferences, tolerance, and nutritional plans set by dietitians.
- Delivers accurate and timely meals as per prescribed diet orders.
- Sets up and feeds patients as needed.
- Documents clinical information using computerized or Kardex systems.
- Provides nutrition counseling, recommends food choices, and educates patients based on medical needs.
- Retrieves and delivers food carts/trucks to patient floors.
- Carries trays to patients, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Addresses patient requests by coordinating with the kitchen or dietitian.
- Maintains cleanliness and safety of food in kitchens, stocks supplies, and records fridge/freezer temperatures.
- Assists in tray line and kitchen tray production.
- Gathers quality assurance data to meet standards.
- Maintains a safe, clean environment to promote patient satisfaction and safety culture.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Required: Associates Degree in Nutrition, or 50% completion towards a BS in Nutrition, or 2 years clinical experience as a diet tech.
- Preferred: Prior patient contact and food service experience.
Skills/Knowledge
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with patients and staff.
- Basic computer skills required.
