The predicted salary is between 13.5 - 13.5 £ per hour.

The Sports Centre opened in Sept 2024 and is a state-of-the-art building which offers 2 x 4-court sports halls, gym with Techno Gym CV & resistance machines, Blk Box free weights, fitness studio, 6 squash courts, 6 fives courts, 6-lane 25m swimming pool and a prestigious martial arts dojo.

Outside the centre we also offer our new floodlit full-size all-weather pitch to external users.

The Sport Centre is predominately used by Winchester College pupils, staff & their families as well as the local community via monthly or annual memberships & commercial block bookings.

The main duties of this role include supervision of the Sports Centre Reception, welcoming College pupils, staff as well as helping to deliver first-rate service to our customers and members.

The post is required to staff the reception dealing with enquiries, responding to emails, dealing with membership and booking administration as a regular aspect of the role, whilst also working within the guidelines of the centres operating procedures and emergency action plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF RECEPTIONIST/MEMBERSHIP ADMINISTRATOR

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the front of house representative of the Sports Centre.
  • To supervise the reception area of the Sports Centre ensuring that you are offering the highest level of customer service, welcoming centre users, dealing with enquiries and logging attendance.
  • Membership management will be an important aspect of the role, answering queries, processing membership applications, taking payments and booking members in for activities, as required.
  • Assisting in the management of our commercial group block bookings and diaries under the guidance of the Sports Centre GM & Sports BDE, keeping an eye on any logistical or organisational aspects of the bookings and supporting the Sports BDE with administrative duties, which includes collecting contractual information from the hirers in order to process bookings.

To ensure all block booking hirers have signed booking agreements, presented Enhance DBS certificates, which includes verifying and logging the necessary details.

  • The Sports Centre is developing a range of product, merchandise and catering vending.

Receptionists will be responsible for the monitoring, stock checks, restocking and sales of these products.

Ensuring suitable stock holdings and liaising with managers over ordering & stock development.

  • The role includes computer use on several different software systems & packages, as well as telephone use, including Gladstone membership management and use of payment terminals.
  • Support the Sports Centre GM & Sports BDE with any sports related marketing campaigns or any other related projects as necessary, commensurate with the grading and responsibility of the post.
  • Adhere to the Winchester College workplace expectations; encompassing strong communication skills, reliability and initiative, safety, and accomplishment of work tasks and supervision.
  • To notify the Duty Manager of any damage to the facility, equipment that needs repair or safety concerns.
  • If required, to provide first aid in the event of an injury, calling the emergency services if necessary. Accident, incident & near-miss reporting.
  • Assist the team in monitoring and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness around our centre.
  • Ensure that the Centre’s Normal Operating Procedures and Emergency Action Plans are followed, providing feedback to the Manager on duty when required.
  • As reception is at the heart of the Sports Centre, it is important that there is good communication with all other Sports Centre colleagues to ensure a collaborative approach to managing the centre.
  • The post holder must be consistent in nature, friendly but firm when required, to ensure a safe, fun & welcoming environment for all user groups alike.

This role will report to the Sports Centre General Manager and will support the Sports Centre Business Development Executive

BENEFITS, TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND APPLICATION

Start Date

Flexible start date for the right candidate with preference for commencement from the beginning of October 2026

Hours of Work

We are looking to recruit two staff members for these part-time roles, which will cover a mix of morning, evening & weekend shifts as detailed below.

You would be expected to alternate the Saturday morning shift.

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekday morning shifts 9am - 1pm
  • Weekday evening shifts 5pm - 8.30pm
  • Morning shifts 8am – 1pm
  • Please note, these shift patterns are under review and subject to change, depending on operational requirements.

The salary will be based on £13.50 per hour.

Salary is paid monthly, in arrears, to a nominated bank account in 12 equal payments.

Salary levels are reviewed on 1 September annually and this appointment will be next reviewed in September 2027.
