Overview

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Transport Team Manager has arisen, to join our successful Wincanton team at our Sainsbury\'s distribution site in Northampton.

This is a key role within the transport operation, with responsibility for the effective and timely despatch of deliveries to Sainsbury\'s retail and convenience stores, using the customers latest Integrated Transport Management System.

Hours/Shifts: 3 on 3 off night shift.12 hour shifts - 6pm - 6am. Includes some weekend work.

Salary £33,600 + Night Allowance

What will you contribute?

  • Support the management of a team of drivers, vehicles and administration staff to deliver the timely despatch of deliveries to our customers stores and provide a store network with a first-class service.
  • To brief drivers at the start of every shift communicating planned requirements providing information on performance, company news and procedures.
  • Ensure all work activities carried out in accordance with legal requirements and company guidelines.
  • To ensure operational targets are met on a weekly and monthly basis. Through effective use of the customers Integrated Transport Management System.
  • Work collaboratively with the Warehouse Team and Vehicle Maintenance Unit in orchestrating the movement of loads and availability of vehicles and trailers.
  • Proactively encourage a positive and constructive relationship on site with the union and union representatives.
  • Ensure department complies with Road Traffic Act
  • Ensure drivers comply with health and safety regulations
  • Proactively motivate the transport team by providing guidance and encouragement
  • Report and manage vehicle defects.
  • Communicate with customer regarding any site issues that may impact service level.
  • Deal with internal and external customer and employee concerns and enquiries
  • Proactively motivate and guide all direct reports and manage performance when required.

What will you bring?

  • Experience of working within a transport environment.
  • Knowledge of transport legislation.
  • Experience of supervising and managing a team
  • Knowledge of computerised scheduling and driver management packages would be an advantage
  • Experience of disciplinary / grievance procedures.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative, working to strict deadlines
  • A good communicator both verbal and written
  • Excellent PC skills
  • General awareness of health and safety
  • Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent relationship building and communications skills
