Transport Operations manager – 6 month contract

Overview
Summary and purpose of position: Wincanton is a leading British supply chain solutions company. The Group provides business critical services including storage, handling and distribution; high volume eFulfilment; retailer \’dark stores\’; two-person home delivery; fleet and transport management; and network optimisation for many of the UK\’s best known companies. It is active across a range of markets including food and consumer goods; retail and manufacturing; eCommerce; the public sector; major infrastructure; building materials; fuel; and defence. With almost 100 years\\\’ heritage, Wincanton\\\’s 19,600-strong team operates from more than 200 sites across the country, utilising 3,500 vehicles.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Ability to understand transport networks identifying areas of improvement through analysing and interpreting KPIs and create plans to delivery improvements
- Understand and implement prescribed transport initiatives across multiple locations
- Support the management of the team to ensure process and standards are being achieved to support achievement of contract KPIs
- Delivery of continuous improvement and change management initiatives in a fast paced transport environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- To utilise transport systems, processes, procedures, and training related to all sites in scope
- Driving improved consistency of transport operational practice and performance, enabling collaboration and cross functional best practice
- Seek to make continual improvements to core standards, processes, and practices
- Working in partnership with cross functional team to deliver required service & initiatives
- To support the management and optimisation of all key transport management KPIs relating to delivery, compliance, H&S, and cost management
- Support the delivery of the transport budget and ensure that all transport costs are maintained through the management of transport KPI’s
- Support the delivering best in class health & safety, wellbeing & sustainability standards
- Leading project work to support initiatives and growth
- Accountable for project deliver across multiple sites/customer operational performance.
- Identify and implement transport improvement plans and optimisation projects
- Supports change management and operational improvement activities through analysis, mapping and documentation of benefits and action plans
- Support the development strategic plans for efficient deployment of resources achieving business and customer needs
- Captures and communicates changes in process
Typical Outputs
- Transport modelling and transport modelling approval with solutions design, clearly documenting assumptions and modelling parameters
- Delivery of operational improvement with plans documented and tracked
- Site assessments identifying areas of improvement
- Financial performance reporting
- Support with people activities i.e., investigation and disciplinary
Experience, Skills And Attributes
- Extensive Transport experience & background, with an excellent understanding of the challenges, risks, opportunities and legislation
- Driven and motivated with a desire to add value
- Demonstrate ability to engage at all levels
- Excellent customer relationship management skills with a proactive approach to problem solving
- Proven experience in delivering results, creating opportunities for innovation and managing change
- Strong leadership and communication skills for training and motivating teams, creating the vision for the future of the company
- Proven track record of delivering key transport initiatives
- Strong commercial capabilities and contract knowledge and understanding
- Comprehensive operational knowledge gained within a large complex 3PL environment
- Experienced transport operator with experience of closed and open book activity
- Multi sector experience beneficial
- Transport CPC National and International beneficial
- Previous budgetary experience for planning and control of financial expenditure
- Previous planning experience with paragon, Ortec or similar systems
- Experience within project and change management environment
- Continuous improvement experience and/or training beneficial
- Competent IT user with adaptability to IT systems and Microsoft packages
- Able to engage and communicate with all levels of the business stakeholders
