An opportunity has arisen for a People Assistant based at the Argos Distribution Centre in Kettering. To deliver a generalist HR Support in a professional manner, working as a part of a proactive and responsive team to provide pragmatic and focused HR solutions for the site and wider business.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for providing an effective and customer focussed HR service which supports all aspects of an employee’s relationship and engagement with the business.
  • To provide advice and assistance on policies, procedures and legislation agreements.
  • To advise, support and guide managers in investigations, performance management, absence management, conduct related disciplinaries, appeals and all family friendly procedures (maternity, paternity, parental leave, flexible working).
  • To provide administration support in the recruitment process from start-to-finish including assisting and guiding managers throughout the process.
  • To assist in the production of HR Statistics and KPIs on a weekly / monthly basis.
  • To develop and maintain close working relationships with key customers (internal and external).
  • To update and maintain the HR Information Systems (Oracle).
  • Producing and maintaining accurate reports and records for all HR issues.
  • To ensure that all administration is carried out in a timely, effective and accurate manner.
  • To support the development of strong communication and feedback channels with all staff and through a variety of mechanisms to support employee engagement.
  • To support with the learning and development.

Experience, skills, attributes and the person:

  • A ‘can do’ solution focused attitude and approach.
  • An understanding in the principles of good HR practice and employment law.
  • Resourceful and able to work on own initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Works effectively within the team and sees the potential in others.
  • Previous HR experience within logistics / distribution is an advantage.
  • A good understanding in the principles of HR best practice and employment law.
  • A working knowledge of computerised HR systems.
  • Excellence in administration including attention to detail, timeliness and accuracy.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Confidential and professional approach.
  • Ability to organise, plan and prioritise workload within a team environment.
  • Flexibility in working hours – to support 24/7 operation.
  • Attitude towards continuous improvement.
