About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Bond Operations Manager to lead the Bond Team at our Doncaster Redhouse site. This is a critical position responsible for ensuring full HMRC Customs & Excise compliance across all excise-related movements, transactions, and processes. You will oversee all day-to-day bonded operations, support the delivery of strategic growth initiatives across WDGB bonded sites, and ensure our intake, warehouse, and removal processes meet legislative requirements. The role also requires close coordination with operational teams across multiple locations and direct engagement with clients regarding excise matters.
Key Responsibilities, Compliance & Operational Control
- Manage daily excise transactions, ensuring full HMRC compliance.
- Support and maintain all Wincanton Customs & Excise approvals.
- Ensure all inbound and outbound movements are processed accurately through Manhattan and DMS systems.
- Oversee duty payments, ensuring correct duty and VAT declarations via ATWD.
- Monitor DMS daily for outstanding transactions and errors.
- Support W1 warrant creation and submission to HMRC.
- Ensure daily reconciliations between Manhattan and DMS align with stock holding.
- Support and oversee regular stocktakes and results.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HMRC regulations through continuous professional development.
- Lead, coach, and support Bond Team members.
- Deliver and coordinate training to ensure operational excellence and compliance.
- Promote efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement across the team.
Strategic Development
- Develop and lead the WDGB Bond Strategy for future growth.
- Support current and upcoming bonded warehouse operations.
- Assist in the implementation of new Customs & Excise warehouse facilities.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Coordinate work with local operational teams.
- Liaise with clients regarding excise-related issues.
- Balance day-to-day operational needs with ad-hoc project requirements.
Experience & Skills Required
- 2–3 years’ operational experience within a Bond/Customs & Excise environment.
- 2 years’ management or team leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of HMRC bonded warehouse processes.
- Full working knowledge of Manhattan & Descartes systems.
- Ability to strategically plan and drive operational improvements.
- Strong communication skills, able to interact effectively with varied stakeholders.
- Demonstrated Wincanton leadership behaviours.
- Ability to balance operational priorities with compliance requirements.
- Developing knowledge of Duty and Excise.
- Strong presentation and training delivery skills.
