Job Description: We are recruiting for a Transport Planning Clerk to join our team on a 12-month contract. In this role you will produce transport plans for multiple sites and compile the national backhaul plan along with daily problem resolution and root cause analysis of any operational issues, resolving with issues as needed. You will be responsible to produce financial reports and subsequent payment processes. Working hours between 07:00 17:00.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for building the transport schedule for multiple sites, ensuring best possible cost to serve, hitting service metrics, maximising trailer fill and in line with warehouse capability
  • Ensure transport solutions are sourced from depots and hauliers to cover all loads
  • Ensure all backhaul requests are planned and executed correctly and investigate and address failures.
  • Ad-hoc transport movements are planned as required using available Sainsbury\'s and third-party transport resources.
  • Support in the delivery of key commercial targets such as continuous improvement and cost to serve targets
  • Responsible for raising purchase orders to ensure accurate and timely payment.
  • Collation and validation of daily and weekly data and production of financial reports
  • Capture and record various data relating to depot transfers, KPI reporting, project activity and load failure reports.
  • Monitor haulier performance against KPIs and challenge failures to service levels are met
  • Proactively liaise with hauliers, depots and third parties to resolve day-to-day operational issues.
  • Influence and manage expectations of depots, suppliers and internal stakeholders in relation to service
  • Investigate errors to identify root cause and make recommendations for improvement to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Administer the national backhaul plan and recommend opportunities to reduce cost, minimise empty journey legs and increase round trips, whilst adhering to service level agreements.
  • Work with management team to identify and develop individual skill set to be part of a high performing team.
  • Continually evaluate processes to identify opportunities to drive efficiencies.
  • Analyse historical data to identify trends, variances and opportunities for improvement
  • Support the development of Central Transport planning tools and processes to improve operational efficiency.
  • Excellent attention to detail with good reporting and analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong ability to communicate and influence well at all levels.
  • Proficient capability with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and hit deadlines.
  • An understanding of transport costs and budgets would be ideal
  • Work as part of team to effectively communicate and deliver a high service level.
