Wincanton are looking to recruit a Health and Safety Officer for our EDF Energy contract, supporting our warehousing operations in Bridgewater (J24, TA6 6TS). This site houses all construction items for the build of HPC nuclear power station, estimated to be complete in 2032. This exciting project will power 6 million homes for three generations and help Britain to achieve Net Zero.

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, this key role supports the customer contract by integrating effectively with the onsite team, to ensure H&S standards & compliance is achieved and maintained through high levels of employee engagement and a strong health and safety behaviour culture. This is a Monday to Friday role, salary circa £35,000 p.a.

Successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain security clearance prior to commencing employment, which includes being able to provide a minimum of 3 years consecutive UK employment/education & residential history.

How will you contribute?

  • Support and lead the creation and maintenance of Management Plans, Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
  • Deliver and record colleague training and escalate any training gaps.
  • Input, analyse and report all Health, Safety and Environment information to Wincanton and Client systems.
  • Chair, present and update minutes from HSE meetings pursuing closure on actions and escalating where necessary.
  • Manage contractors prior to accessing site, during and on exiting the premises; this would include paperwork, Permit to Works, Defects, equipment suitability and conformity, follow up requirements, inductions, pass control.
  • Be point of contact for all HSE escalations across EDF/Wincanton sites.
  • Communicate HSE business critical updates to all colleagues.

What will you bring?

  • NEBOSH general certificate (essential).
  • Experience of supporting and promoting H&S first culture and initiatives through employee engagement.
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
  • Ability to build strong and effective relationships with customers and colleagues at all levels, by demonstrating a high level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Background in construction, infrastructure or defence is ideal but not essential.
