Sports Massage Soft Tissue Therapist

We are looking for an experienced sports massage and soft tissue therapist to join the Player Medical Team at The Championships.This is a Championships-only appointment, with working days agreed annually and typically requiring a commitment of 7-14 days during the Championships period.

If shortlisted, interviews will take place in person at The AELTC on Friday 30 October.

What you will be doing

• To deliver high-quality soft tissue therapy to athletes as part of an integrated medical and performance service — supporting preparation, recovery, injury risk reduction and return to play. Support to be provided before, during, and after match competition, through sports massage, stretch and movement coaching.
• Work collaboratively with players’ own coaching and support staff, whether on-site or remotely.
• Deliver soft tissue therapy to all players entered in all competitions of The Championships.
• Carry out focused assessment of soft tissue status, movement quality and load-related symptoms, and select appropriate techniques on clinical reasoning rather than routine.
• Apply a range of manual techniques — including deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point, muscle energy techniques and assisted stretching — adapted to competition phase and athlete need.
• Ensure medical and therapy equipment is appropriately maintained.
• Provide therapy assistance during warm-ups, recovery, and pre-activation sessions with direction of the physiotherapy team.
• Recognise the limits of the role: identify red flags, undiagnosed pathology and presentations requiring physiotherapy or medical assessment, and elevate promptly.
• Maintain accurate, contemporaneous treatment records on the electronic medical record system, in line with professional standards and data protection requirements.
• Work within the organisation's clinical governance framework, standard operating procedures and consent protocols. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all regulations and procedures relating to the role. Adhere to safeguarding policies, including those relating to athletes under 18 and adults at risk.

About You

Qualifications:

• Level 4 or 5 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy, or a degree in Sports Therapy, Sport Rehabilitation or equivalent.
• Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. Sports Massage Association, Federation of Holistic Therapists, Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council, or equivalent).
• Substantial evidence of post-graduate professional development, reflective practice, and experiential learning in sport professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
• Emergency first aid qualification appropriate to the sporting environment

Essential experience:

• Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in the provision of specialist musculoskeletal therapy services with experience working with sporting populations (this should include work with some tennis & high-performance teams)
• Experience supporting clinical governance and coordination of therapy staff
• Working within a multi-disciplinary team to evaluate and manage complex clinical presentations and develop impactful solutions through interdisciplinary collaboration

Desirable experience:

• Experience of working within professional tennis, or a comprehensive understanding of the sport’s specific requirements.
• Experience navigating complex working environments and establishing effective working relationships across key sporting influences.
• An understanding of the performance demands and needs of elite tennis athletes and coaches.
• Specialist musculoskeletal knowledge and clinical reasoning skills with considerable experience of application in sport.
• A broad understanding of sports science and sports medicine disciplines and their roles in tennis performance.
• Significant understanding of specialist technical skills and knowledge underpinning the delivery of athlete management and rehabilitation in the performance environment (Including physical training and adaptation, testing and monitoring, periodisation/planning, and coaching).
• Discretion and sound judgement in a confidential, high-profile environment.
• Calm under pressure and adaptable to rapidly changing schedules.
• Collaborative, with the confidence to raise concerns constructively.
• Skilled in building and maintaining productive relationships with colleagues.
• Show commitment to promoting and supporting equality, diversity, and safeguarding within sport.

Conditions of work

• Specific working days are variable and agreed on an annual basis; expected to be 7-14 days during The Championships period.
• You will be employed directly by the AELTC for the duration of the post and will be remunerated by the AELTC at a rate to be decided by the HR Manager
• You will be required to demonstrate an appropriate level of professional indemnity cover to be able to practice in this clinical environment
• Based within Millennium Building & Aorangi Medical Facilities, Qualifying at Roehampton or Raynes Park
• A food allowance is provided on working days
• The club will employ you for the time working at the Championships, you will be required to find and subsidise your own accommodation.

The AELTC Player Medical team provide care for all players and eligible player support staff. Sports massage and soft tissue therapy cover is delivered from a central medical facility, with additional facilities based at Qualifying and Practice / Junior player hubs, as well as courtside when required. Primary care, Sports and Exercise Medicine, sports physiotherapists and podiatry are also provided on site. The AELTC Medical team work closely with physiotherapists and psychologists from the ATP and WTA.
