We are looking for an experienced Social Worker to join our Emergency Duty Service on a casual basis. Our team supports people across Wiltshire outside normal working hours, offering calm, skilled and person-centred help when situations are urgent and complex. You will bring empathy, compassion and sound professional judgement to adults, children and families who need immediate support and protection.

Working in partnership with police, health colleagues and other agencies, you will assess risk, manage safeguarding concerns and take honest, timely decisions that keep people safe. You will act with integrity in every situation, treating everyone with respect and building trust through clear communication and accurate, up-to-date records. You will provide guidance and reassurance, prevent unnecessary admissions to hospital or care and help families find safe and sustainable solutions during times of crisis.

This role calls for someone adaptable and agile in their thinking, able to stay calm under pressure and confident using electronic systems to record and share information by the next working day. You will be a qualified and registered Social Worker with strong experience in statutory and safeguarding work, and a commitment to teamwork, reflective practice and ongoing learning.

Candidates applying will need a minimum of two years’ previous experience working for EDS, as well as a background in mental health. As a casual worker, you will have no fixed hours and will work on an as-needed basis, depending on Wiltshire Council's requirements and your availability. You are not obligated to be available, and the council is not obliged to offer you work.
