About the Role

We are seeking a warm, reliable and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant and Extended Day Support Assistant to join our small and committed team at Luckington School. This is a varied and rewarding role which combines supporting pupils during the school day plus helping to provide a welcoming and well-organised environment within The Nest, our extended day provision.

The successful candidate will work alongside teaching staff to support learning in the classroom and will also help pupils begin and end their school day in a calm, positive and sociable way. During the core school day, the role will involve supporting teaching and learning in the classroom, working with individuals and small groups of pupils, and helping to ensure that all children are able to access the curriculum. The role will also include lunchtime supervision, supporting pupils to enjoy a safe and positive lunchtime experience.

Outside the core school day, the role will support The Nest, which provides breakfast and after school provision for pupils. This time focuses on creating a relaxed, community atmosphere where children can socialise, take part in quiet activities, and develop independence through simple routines such as preparing snacks, helping to tidy away and looking after their environment.

The full working day runs from 7:45am to 6:00pm, structured as follows:

  • 7:45 – 8:45am – Extended Day Provision (Breakfast Session – The Nest)
  • 8:45am – 3:15pm – Core School Hours (Teaching Assistant duties including lunchtime supervision)
  • 3:15 – 6:00pm – Extended Day Provision (After School Session – The Nest)

We recognise that this is a longer working day and are therefore open to flexible working arrangements, including considering applicants who may wish to undertake different parts of the day. Our priority is to appoint the right person who will contribute positively to our team and provide a nurturing and supportive environment for our pupils.

A bit about us:

Luckington School is a small rural primary school serving the village of Luckington and the surrounding area. We work closely with Cherry Blossom Pre-school, who share our site. Originally a Victorian building, the school has been thoughtfully extended to include a modern hall, reception area and library. We currently have 43 pupils taught across two mixed-age classes. As a small school we benefit from a high adult-to-pupil ratio. Staff work closely together to ensure that every child is well known, well supported and able to thrive. The school sits at the heart of the local community and benefits from very supportive parents and governors. Our pupils are very well behaved, enthusiastic learners and take pride in their school. Their attainment is strong and we have high expectations for all. We are a small, committed staff team who work collaboratively to provide a nurturing and engaging environment for our pupils. We also work closely with other small schools in the area, enabling our pupils to take part in a range of shared opportunities such as sports tournaments, music festivals and residential visits.

Alongside the school day, we are launching The Nest this year, our extended day provision, which offers a calm and welcoming start to the morning and a sociable, community-focused end to the day for pupils attending breakfast and after school sessions.
