The Health, Safety & Environment Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our people and contractors work in the safest and most effective way possible during the construction of our new food factory, Kitchen West. You will also play a significant part in the specification, assessment and commissioning of new plant, processes and equipment to ensure future safe operations once the factory goes live. This is a major strategic development for the business and legal compliance and people’s safety are critical requirements of the successful delivery of the project. It's also a really exciting opportunity to be involved in the building of a state-of-the-art new sustainable food factory.
Based at our Head Office in Trowbridge, full time, the typical hours will be Monday - Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm.
Responsibilities
- Provide visible and effective leadership on all relevant health and safety matters across the project life-cycle.
- Ensure full compliance with the client duties under CDM 2015 Regulations including oversight of the Principal Designer and individual contracting companies.
- Develop, implement and maintain the project H&S strategy, standards, governance arrangements and assurance processes.
- Ensure safety is embedded from concept design through construction, commissioning, start-up and handover.
- Promote a culture in which safety is treated as a core project value, not simply a compliance requirement.
- Take an active part in the selection of contractors that we engage to ensure that they have the appropriate skills, knowledge, experience and resources and provide high quality risk assessments and method statements in advance of the work.
- Supervise the operations closely to ensure that all contractors meet their legal obligations, cooperate with one another and manage and control the risks appropriately.
- Lead and participate in the assessment of new plant, machinery and processes to facilitate timely project completion and future safe operations.
Qualifications/Personal Qualities
Essentials:
- NEBOSH Diploma level 6 or equivalent HSE qualification, for example NVQ level 6 in occupational health & safety.
- Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH).
- Formal training in CDM 2015.
- Strong experience of large construction projects under CDM 2015.
- Deep knowledge of relevant UK HSE legislation and best practices.
- Lived experience of inspecting and commissioning new machinery and plant.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Desirable:
- Incident investigation qualification.
- Evidence of leading high-risk works.
- Environmental management qualification and associated experience in a construction field.
