Hours of work: 35 hours - 8.30am to 4.00pm - Monday to Friday

A bit about us: The Clifton centre is a specialist provision within The Bridge Alternative Provision providing high-quality education for learners with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Our team is committed to delivering a flexible and inclusive curriculum that enables our learners to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our provision is a transition rather than a destination setting - supporting a variety of learners, including those that need time out from their home school, at risk of permanent exclusion, those awaiting a special school placement and young people from out of county. We work with learners with a variety of difficulties and conditions including autism, ADHD, SEMH, sensory issues, trauma, brain injuries and learning difficulties. A large focus of our work is helping young people who have behavioural concerns or mental health problems. We aim to restore young people's self-confidence, self-esteem, self-control and self-motivation through a flexible, personalised, needs-led programme with unconditional care, nurture and support.

All about the role: Our teachers provide outstanding teaching and leadership to our class teams. You will support and embed the vision, direction and culture that inspires staff teams to work together to provide the highest standards of education and care. You will be responsible for contributing to the development of the curriculum for your learners along with our SENCO and Curriculum Lead. The curriculum will support and engage young people ensuring the correct provision of resources, within the educational setting, allowing them to thrive and meet their full potential. We pride ourselves on our excellent engagement and pastoral care, which ensures the vulnerable children in our care are ready to learn. As their teacher you will be expected to work alongside our pastoral team to implement strategies and engagement to not only develop educational progress but also social and emotional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high quality lessons that meet the National Curriculum and are suitable for all learners aged 11 to 16.
  • Show a duty of care and take appropriate action to comply with health and safety requirements at all times.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the provision.
  • Maintain good relationships with colleagues and work together as a team.
  • Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
  • Attend relevant meetings as required.
  • Stay current with any changes and developments to the national teaching curriculum.
  • Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
  • Demonstrate and promote commitment to equal opportunities and to the elimination of behaviour and practices that could be discriminatory.
  • Develop and deliver Post 16 programmes of study.
  • Engage and support challenging learners.
  • Ensure all your lessons, units, and projects are clearly understood by your learners.
  • Work with your colleagues to coordinate lesson plans where other subjects can complement your Maths lessons.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider staff team including the SENCO to support learners' emotional and academic development.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to learners with SEMH needs.
  • Be aware of and support differences and ensure that all learners have access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Being creative and enthusiastic about using different teaching methods, including solo work, group work, whole-class work, demonstrations, and experiments.
  • Track and assess progress, adapting teaching strategies as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of individual learning plans and intervention strategies.
  • Oversee the work of the Teaching Assistants (TAs).
  • Follow safeguarding procedures to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment by effectively implementing our whole provision behaviour policy.
  • Creating a classroom environment where learners work together to achieve their learning goals.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • If required, give feedback to any relevant external bodies concerning the progress, behaviour and child protection issues.
  • Be accountable and aspirational for the outcomes of all learners in the class.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in delivering Functional Skills, ASDAN, or vocational subjects.
  • Understanding of SEND and trauma-informed approaches to learning.
  • Training in Lego Therapy, TRT, or other therapeutic interventions.
