Waste management - Shaping a Greener, More Sustainable Future
Are you passionate about the environment and sustainable resource management, and ready to lead one of Wiltshire's most essential services during a period of genuine transformation? Wiltshire Council's Waste Team delivers one of the largest waste and recycling collection services in the country and responsibly manages the significant volumes of waste arising. Our waste services are highly valued by the public, protect our shared environment and also shape the council's reputation. We recognise that effective waste management decisions also have the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions now and into the future.
We're looking for an experienced Waste Manager to take charge of its contracted waste management operations to provide landfill diversion arrangements as well as services for the sorting of collected recyclables, inform strategic waste transfer decisions, and deliver the public-facing Household Recycling Centre service. The post will reward innovative thinking, strong leadership and a commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. Your expertise will guide critical business decisions as you act as the council's lead representative on several high value contracts, ensuring they deliver value for money and continue to meet the needs of the council in the face of a changing regulatory climate. You'll also drive service transformation projects to align with new legislation, like the Environment Act 2021, and explore innovative solutions for Wiltshire's waste management future.
We're looking for someone with substantial experience in waste management, ideally backed by a relevant degree and professional qualifications, with a strong record in managing large budgets and performance reporting. You'll need excellent people skills, a sharp mind for data and contracts, and a genuine passion for tackling environmental challenges.
This role is a hybrid working role, with flexible working split between our Trowbridge hub at County Hall, and home working with a minimum of 50% office working. All applications need to include a CV and covering letter detailing how your work experience and qualifications make you suitable for the role.
The council is committed to creating an environment of positive working relationships where everyone feels engaged, supported and able to thrive. Our Identity is a framework which sets out how we are all expected to lead, work and act to deliver our services. We will not tolerate discrimination, bullying or harassment of any kind. Everyone is expected to promote a culture of inclusion, dignity, trust and respect which is underpinned by our vision and Our Identity framework.
