This is a fantastic opportunity to join Wiltshire Council in a newly created role reporting directly to the Head of Legal Services. Positioned at the heart of decision-making, you will play a key role in supporting the Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer on governance, democracy, and public law matters.
Ideally suited to a newly qualified solicitor, or an experienced solicitor seeking a move into a new specialism, this role offers the chance to develop expertise in Local Authority governance within a supportive and forward-thinking legal team.
Working closely with officers, elected members, and legal colleagues, you will contribute to robust governance arrangements, high-quality decision-making, and the Council's compliance with its statutory obligations. You will apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to deliver practical legal solutions while maintaining the highest professional and regulatory standards.
You will manage your own varied caseload, providing high-quality, well-researched legal advice to client departments while ensuring matters are progressed efficiently and stakeholders are kept informed. Your work will include advising on member standards, engaging with administrative law issues, and advising and attending formal meetings and committees of the council where appropriate.
This role requires excellent organisational and communication skills, the ability to prioritise effectively, and a commitment to continuous professional development.
