Legal Services - Shaping the Future of Our Community

Are you a recently qualified solicitor or barrister? Whether you’ve just completed your training or have gained some experience, we invite you to become a part of our Safeguarding and Protection team. Collaborate with friendly and experienced lawyers who handle Adult Care work and open the door to continuous development through invaluable learning opportunities within our team.

Your responsibilities will cover a wide spectrum of adult care matters, including:

  • Ordinary residence disputes
  • Safeguarding and care management resolutions
  • Challenges to community care decisions
  • Complaints and public law challenges
  • Inter-agency disputes

Extensive experience is not a requirement - we’re interested in potential. If you’re adept at research, analysis, and communication, coupled with strong interpersonal and organisational skills, you’re exactly the person we’re seeking.

Applications from candidates who are in the process of completing their qualifying work experience and SQE qualifications as a Solicitor will be considered. Although your designated workplace will be our main office at County Hall in Trowbridge, we embrace hybrid work arrangements that offer flexibility and maintain productivity, ensuring the right equilibrium for you and the service. Regular office attendance is expected, and there may be occasions where you need to attend court in person.

Why us? Wiltshire Council is a friendly, welcoming place to work, with a 'One Council' ethos. That’s why we focus on getting the things that matter to our people right. This position comes with a 15% market supplement payment. All market supplement payments are subject to review on an annual basis.

While we welcome applications from job seekers who require skilled worker sponsorship, we are not able to issue a defined certificate of sponsorship due to limitations in our sponsorship capacity.

The council is committed to creating an environment of positive working relationships where everyone feels engaged, supported and able to thrive. We will not tolerate discrimination, bullying or harassment of any kind. Everyone is expected to promote a culture of inclusion, dignity, trust and respect.

This role may be subject to certain successful security checks; please see the role description for more information. We are firmly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and to the principles of inclusion and diversity in both employment and the delivery of services.

Please ensure to regularly check your spam/junk folder for any communication from us regarding your application status. We wouldn’t want you to miss out on any important updates or interview invitations. Thank you!
