This is a fantastic opportunity to join Wiltshire Council in a newly created role reporting directly to the Head of Legal Services. Positioned at the heart of decision‑making, you will play a key role in supporting the Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer on governance, democracy, and public law matters. Ideally suited to a newly qualified solicitor, or an experienced solicitor seeking a move into a new specialism, this role offers the chance to develop expertise in Local Authority governance within a supportive and forward‑thinking legal team.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with officers, elected members, and legal colleagues to contribute to robust governance arrangements, high‑quality decision‑making, and the Council’s compliance with its statutory obligations.
  • Applying strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to deliver practical legal solutions while maintaining the highest professional and regulatory standards.
  • Managing a varied caseload, providing high‑quality, well‑researched legal advice to client departments, ensuring matters progress efficiently and stakeholders are kept informed.
  • Advising on member standards, engaging with administrative law issues, and advising and attending formal meetings and committees of the council where appropriate.

  • Newly qualified solicitor or an experienced solicitor seeking a move into a new specialism.
