The predicted salary is between 500 - 1500 £ per month.

In general, to be an active volunteer in the work of the Trust to restore the Wilts & Berks canal, especially regarding development of high-level strategy, governance of the charity and limited company, and public advocacy with external audiences (especially those with national remits). The Company Secretary ensures that WBCT complies with its legal, regulatory, and constitutional obligations, and that governance arrangements support the effective functioning of the charity. Trustees ensure that the charity is being correctly run, with operational activity being delegated to the Executive Board. Relevant training will be given. Up to 1 day per week will be needed, only a small part of which will be on Company Secretary matters. The majority of time will be spent as an active volunteer, whether on "clean shoes" and/or "dirty boots" activities.

  • Knowledge of company and charity law (UK) - legal background a distinct advantage.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • A collaborative and diplomatic approach with the ability to work with trustees, staff, and volunteers.
  • Open-minded, inquisitive, proactive and enthusiastic about what we’re doing.
  • Experience as a Company Secretary or equivalent governance role in a charity or not-for-profit organisation.
  • Familiarity with Companies House and Charity Commission online portals.
  • Understanding of operational and governance challenges facing volunteer-led charities.
