We are currently recruiting for a General Assistant to join our team at one of our workplace restaurants in Melbourn, Cambridge SG8 6EE.

This is a permanent position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 3pm.

Wilson Vale is an established, quality-led contract caterer. We work with amazing clients across the UK who place huge value on great food as a key part of their culture and community. We work in office restaurants, independent schools and at conference venues with the same high‑end ethos throughout.

We’re seeking a positive, honest, and reliable individual to join our friendly, hardworking team. In return, we offer excellent training and genuine opportunities for progression for the right candidate.

As a General Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting the day‑to‑day operation. Your responsibilities will include food preparation, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, and assisting with front‑of‑house service. You’ll need to be adaptable and ready to respond to the changing needs of the service each day.

You’ll be part of a team of five, helping to deliver a small breakfast offering and a busy lunch service for up to 400 staff members. Our lunch service includes hot main dishes inspired by global cuisines and current food trends, alongside grab‑and‑go sandwiches, a fresh salad bar, a soup station, and a daily selection of cakes and bakes.

All menus are created weekly by the Chef Manager, with every element prepared from scratch using fresh, seasonal ingredients. The team also supports on‑site hospitality and events as required.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Have experience working in a similar role and environment
  • Be highly organised and comfortable working in a high‑pressured environment
  • Ensure you have high standards of food hygiene and follow the rules of health and safety
  • Keep up standards of hygiene and ensure all areas are clean and tidy
  • Have excellent customer service and social skills
  • Be responsible for the preparation and serving of food to staff
  • Have a can do attitude and will work well as part of a team of 5
