The New Business & Conflicts Analyst supports Wilson Sonsini's New Business and Conflicts team in identifying, evaluating, and resolving potential conflicts of interest arising from new client and matter intake, lateral attorney and staff hiring, and related anti-money laundering (AML) obligations.
The Analyst serves as a first point of analysis on conflicts searches and client due diligence, working closely with various teams across the firm's global offices.
This is a foundational role within the firm's risk management function, offering direct exposure to the firm's client base across the technology and life sciences sectors and a clear path for professional development within a leading global law firm.
This position is available as a hybrid work schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct conflict of interest searches in connection with new client intake, new matter opening, and lateral attorney/staff hires, using the firm's conflicts database and relevant third-party research tools
- Analyze search results to identify potential conflicts for relevant hit selections
- Perform corporate research (e. g., entity structure, ownership, affiliates) and conduct AML/know-your-client (KYC) checks on prospective clients in accordance with firm policy and applicable regulatory requirements
- Process new client and new matter intake requests, ensuring accurate and timely entry of client, matter, and billing information into the firm's accounting/intake database
- Liaise with attorneys, billing personnel, and other administrative departments to gather information necessary to clear and open new clients and matters
- Support process improvements and assist with special projects related to new business intake and conflicts as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- 1+ years of relevant experience in a law firm conflicts, risk, or business intake function preferred
- Strong analytical, research, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex corporate and ownership information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with attorneys and staff at all levels
- Sound independent judgment and the ability to identify issues requiring escalation
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to manage a high‑volume workload, work efficiently under time pressure, and maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times
