Apprentice HGV Mechanic / Plant Mechanic

Earn as you learn to become a fully qualified Motor Vehicle Technician (Heavy Vehicle), be part of a dedicated team that maintains Wilson and Scott’s fleet of Road Marking Vehicles and plant to a high standard.

Under the supervision and guidance of our Workshop atThatcham, Reading, combined with study at college (for 3 years), you will acquire the necessary skills and on-the-job training to achieve aMotor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician (Heavy Vehicle) Apprenticeship Level 3.

Starting salary is minimum wage for apprentices(which will increase as you progress through your apprenticeship), plus a host of great benefits.

What will you be doing?

Our Workshops look after all vehicle and plant issues, including daily defects and any breakdowns, servicing, maintenance and MOTs – all in place to support and ensure a smooth service and compliancy for our customers and operations.

Under the supervision and guidance of our experienced Workshop team, combined with online activities, webinars, tutorials and one full day a week for class and practical training at Langley or Brooklands College, you will acquire the skills and on-the-job training to achieve your apprenticeship, like the many Wilson and Scott apprentices who have gone before you.

On a day-to-day basis, you will help to prepare vehicles and Plant for workshop maintenance and assist with inspections, repairs and general maintenance of the fleet in the workshop and out in the field.

What we\’re looking for in our Apprentice :

– Ideally, GCSE or equivalent English and Maths (Grade D/3 or above).
– Experience is not essential, but a positive and professional attitude is!
– You are good at communicating, both face-to-face and on paper, and you’re capable of using your initiative.
– You must be someone who enjoys working as part of a team, and understands the importance of being reliable.
– You will be able to demonstrate an awareness of safety for yourself and other people.
– You are computer-savvy and know how to look up information, and you have good problem-solving skills.
– If you don’t already have a full UK driving licence, you are on your way to achieving it.

Working hours:

You must be happy with early starts!

If you are under 18 your working week will be 40 hours, Monday to Friday, 07.30 to 16.30 – 40 hours. If you are 18+, you will be working the same hours but you will also be eligible to join the on call rota and work overtime if it\’s available.
