Wilson Salt Ltd is a long-established family business based in the Duncrue area of Belfast. We are one of the key salt processors in the UK and provide mainly to the animal feed, water and hides and skin industries as well as producing our own water softening tablets and SnowClear, our own brand of clean white deicing salt.

We currently have a vacancy for a Production/Warehouse Operator on the following shift:

  • Monday - Thursday 07:00am - 15:30pm
  • Friday 08:00am - 15:30pm (39 hour week)

While overtime is not a regular requirement, it is important that all members of our team are willing to show flexibility during busy/holiday periods which may also include being asked to cover an alternative shift.

The role is varied and includes both loading and unloading lorries (with forklift) and carrying out various production tasks. The successful applicant will initially undergo a training period of up to 8 weeks in order to become familiar with the different processes.

The current rates are:

  • During training £13.40 per hour
  • Upon completion of training £14.90 per hour

A service increment is awarded after 2 years and there is an opportunity to progress to Senior Operator after 4 years service.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Grinding and drying of salt
  • Salt washing
  • Tablet production
  • Operating loading shovel (training will be provided)
  • Filling bulk bags
  • Filling 25kg and 8kg bags and palletising using automatic bagging plant and robot
  • Loading and unloading of lorries (forklift training will be provided)
  • Accurately updating all production records on SharePoint and SAP
  • Undertaking basic routine maintenance tasks on plant and equipment
  • Updating checklists and maintenance records
  • Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping

Essential criteria:

  • Hardworking and flexible
  • High standard of safety, housekeeping and timekeeping
  • Must have the right to live and work in the UK

Desirable Criteria:

  • Evidence of Front-Loading Shovel training within the last 3 years
  • Evidence of Forklift training within the last 3 years
  • Basic competency in Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of SAP
