Your new role: The Tax Associate (trainee role with study package) will play an important team role in the day-to-day planning, organisation and smooth running of the tax department, to ensure all financial and business objectives are met. They must develop sufficient technical knowledge to undertake the preparation and finalisation of US Federal and State tax returns, Self-Assessment/MTD UK Tax Returns whilst using and understanding legislation appropriately, as well as develop an understanding of the US/UK tax treaty.
Duties & key responsibilities:
- Client • Provides general support to clients in the provision of tax returns, including drafting of informational requests and deliveries of tax returns and advice • Liaises with the client relationship manager and other members of client service team (where in place) to ensure synergy and cohesion in client delivery • Work towards client communications and developing client relationships as the role develops, helping towards providing a high level of client service
- Tax delivery • Prepares and finalises accurate and timely tax return work ready for review • Liaises with other service streams and take responsibility for collation of personal tax information • Uses and understands legislation appropriately to aid in relevant area of work
- Client take-on / risk management • Has an awareness of the firm's risk management procedure and adheres to this • Mitigates risks by involving senior people, ensuring appropriate advice is sought • Builds an understanding of professional standards, ethics and risk management protocols
- Technical competence • Retains sufficient technical knowledge to undertake relevant area of work • Will be required to work towards a professional qualification (EA, ATT/CTA)
- People • Is an approachable and respected member of the team who takes a proactive interest in the team's performance and well-being
- Operations and results • Takes responsibility for billing tax return fees, keeping accurate records • Monitors own time incurred and undertakes analysis as directed • Complete time sheets accurately and on a timely basis
