Overview

Planning and Performance Lead – responsible for the strategic planning, resourcing, and performance management of the Assisted Travel service at Birmingham Airport. The role ensures workforce capacity is accurately forecast, efficiently deployed, and continuously optimised to meet contractual, operational, and financial objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve robust workforce plans aligned to passenger demand, seasonal trends, and contractual requirements.
  • Analyse historical and live demand data to forecast staffing requirements and identify risks to service delivery.
  • Design and manage flexible roster models incorporating permanent, part-time, casual, and agency labour.
  • Ensure effective coverage across all operational zones (landside, airside, apron).
  • Monitor daily operations and implement real‐time adjustments to staffing plans in response to operational disruption, absenteeism, or demand spikes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in workforce planning, performance management, or operations leadership.
  • Strong analytical capability with experience interpreting and presenting performance data.
  • Excellent IT skills, including workforce management and time & attendance systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a high‐demand operational environment.
  • Ability to operate effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Adaptability – capable of responding to changing demands and operational challenges.
  • Technical proficiency – essential experience with resource management software (e.g., Time Gate) and time & attendance tools.
  • Essential background in strategy management, resource planning management, operations management, or a related field, preferably in a high‐demand environment like an airport.

Desirable

  • Experience within aviation, transport, or similarly regulated environments.
  • Experience supporting payroll accuracy and labour cost control.
  • Track record of implementing planning or performance improvement.
