The Health & Safety Consultant will assess businesses against UK H&S legislation, identifying strengths and highlighting areas for improvement in a clear, actionable manner. The role involves producing concise reports, engaging clients, and contributing to commercial growth through the delivery of additional services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver H&S reviews on-site and remotely, creating a personable and engaging client experience.
  • Assess clients and deliver consistently engaging, high-quality services that stand out.
  • Build rapport quickly with stakeholders at all levels, remaining approachable and confident in every conversation.
  • Communicate risk and legal responsibilities in a clear, positive, and easy-to-digest manner.
  • Manage client expectations while maintaining a friendly, professional, and solutions-focused approach.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records to support a strong audit trail.
  • Spot opportunities for added value, naturally weaving consultancy, training, or support into conversations.
  • Actively recommend services that genuinely benefit clients, supporting commercial growth.
  • Build strong relationships to support client retention, becoming a trusted contact.
  • Work closely with internal teams to deliver a seamless and positive client journey from start to finish.
  • Deliver work in line with Phoenix quality standards, paying close attention to detail.
  • Participate in coaching, CPD, and feedback to develop technical and people skills.
  • Escalate serious risks or safeguarding concerns promptly through the correct channels.
  • Ensure compliance with permission to work requirements in the role’s location by the start of employment.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 3 H&S qualification (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent).
  • Tech IOSH status or evidence of eligibility and active pursuit of this status.
  • Solid understanding of UK H&S legislation and practical application within SME environments.
  • Strong client-facing experience, confident, personable, and capable of building rapport with ease.
  • Excellent communication skills and a natural ability to engage, influence, and connect with people from all backgrounds.
  • A proactive, upbeat approach with confidence to have conversations that add value and lead to further opportunities.
  • Good commercial awareness, comfortable identifying needs, suggesting solutions, and contributing to business growth.
  • Strong written skills, keeping reports clear, sharp, and easy to follow.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Comfortable using CRM systems, Microsoft 365, and other digital tools.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel where on-site delivery is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GradIOSH (or working toward it) and/or higher-level H&S qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ, BSc/Graduate Diploma).
  • Experience delivering consultancy, audits, or reviews across different sectors.
  • Fire safety knowledge or experience.
  • Experience creating and implementing practical client documentation.
  • Experience delivering training, workshops, or briefings in an engaging and confident manner.
  • Familiarity with HSE management models (e.g., HSG65/PDCA) in real-world SME settings.

Location and Compensation

  • Location: Home-based – UK-Wide Travel.
  • Salary: Up to £49,000 + up to £20,000 commission and up to £10,000 bonus.
  • Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent.
