We are a happy, successful, expanding and oversubscribed school looking for a conscientious and curious person to join our fantastic Inclusion team providing invaluable support for our pupils. Our school has excellent facilities including a brand-new Specialist Resource Provision opening in September 2026, and we value and care for our staff while supporting our ambitions.
Job Purpose
To work under the direct instruction of teaching/senior staff, usually in the classroom with the teacher. To support access to learning for pupils. To provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils and in the classroom. To work with small groups or individual targeted pupils on a withdrawal basis. To act as a co-form tutor in a particular year group.
Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
- To support pupils' access to the curriculum and their wider development effectively through:
- Interpreting, clarifying and explaining directions.
- Enabling them to use equipment and materials, including digital technology, and developing pupils' competence and confidence.
- Motivating, encouraging, praising and rewarding pupils appropriately.
- Assisting with language, behaviour, reading, spelling, writing, presentation and socialisation as needs determine.
- Keeping pupils on task and helping them to concentrate.
- Implementing agreed learning activities and adjusting activities according to pupil responses and needs.
- Promoting positive behaviour at all times.
- Assisting with any sensory or physical requirements while encouraging independence.
- Assisting with the duties of a form teacher.
- Developing pupils' self-esteem and sense of worth.
- Providing feedback to pupils regarding progress and achievement.
- Organising appropriate learning environments and resources.
- Liaising sensitively and effectively with parents/carers and participating in feedback sessions or meetings.
- Contributing ideas, opinions and suggestions during reviews of pupils' progress or Education, Health, Care plans and pupil profiles.
- Keeping appropriate records in line with school policies and systems.
- Being aware of and complying with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, health, safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
General tasks:
- Actively follow and promote school policies and procedures.
- Foster positive links between school and home.
- Assist with the supervision of pupils outside lesson times.
- Participate in the invigilation of exams and assessments for children on the CoP.
- Participate fully in school professional development activities and other training relevant to the post.
- Assist with other duties within capabilities at the direction of the SENDCO or senior member of staff.
Other requirements:
- Attend and participate in staff meetings.
- Participate in training and performance management as required.
- Have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
