Willow Vale School is looking for a creative and passionate KS2/KS3 teacher who can deliver a differentiated and tailored curriculum to children within our primary and secondary sites. The successful candidate will work to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum to the children within our school. They may also be part of the outreach team to offer support, advice and guidance to our local mainstream school community.

Willow Vale School is one of two Pupil Referral Units commissioned by Somerset County Council and Somerset schools. We provide services through a number of centres and offsite for students who have a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. All students are referred through their mainstream schools in the Taunton, Sedgemoor and West Somerset areas.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a full core curriculum, alongside foundation areas, as well as literacy and numeracy interventions.
  • Support HLTAs in the delivery and planning of lessons; act as a key teacher/tutor for small groups of learners.
  • Be flexible in your approach, work relationally, and be sympathetic to the individual needs of students; adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Work with students who may have significant gaps in their education to help them re-engage in learning.
  • Support social programmes to help young people succeed in mainstream school.
  • Potential involvement with the outreach team to offer support, advice and guidance to local mainstream schools.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience of working with young people who have SEMH needs and gaps in education.
  • Ability to deliver a full core curriculum and appropriate interventions.
  • Flexible approach, relational skills, and the ability to adapt to individual needs.
  • All posts require safeguarding commitment, a criminal background check via the Disclosure procedure, medical clearance, proof of the right to work in the UK and satisfactory references.

  • This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016); the ability to speak fluent English is an essential requirement for the role.
