Are you a Bookkeeper who enjoys variety, flexibility, and a bit of autonomy? Do you either come from a practice background or have experience managing your own portfolio of clients? If so, this could be just the role for you.
We’re working with a forward-thinking, modern accountancy practice in York that’s looking for an experienced Part-Time Bookkeeper to join their close-knit team. They’re not your traditional firm – they’re tech-savvy, personable, and proud to offer a supportive, flexible working culture. You’ll be working around 20 hours per week across 3 days, with the option to work one day from home.
What you’ll be doing:
- Preparing clients’ monthly, quarterly, or annual bookkeeping and VAT returns, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Reconciling bank, cash, debtor, and creditor accounts.
- Reviewing ledgers and postings for accuracy and consistency.
- Making sure clients are using the right accounting software and making the most of automation tools.
- Communicating directly with clients regarding queries, updates, and HMRC matters.
- Liaising with Client Managers on any issues, challenges, or process improvements.
- Building strong relationships with your clients and being a trusted point of contact for all things bookkeeping.
- Contributing ideas to continually improve how the practice works – they’re always open to smarter ways of doing things.

What we’re looking for:
- Previous bookkeeping experience gained in a practice environment or as a self-employed bookkeeper managing your own clients.
- Confidence preparing VAT returns, reconciling accounts, and managing deadlines.
- A good working knowledge of Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage (or similar cloud accounting systems).
- A friendly, professional approach, someone who enjoys working closely with clients and takes pride in accuracy.
- Someone comfortable working independently but happy to collaborate as part of a small, supportive team.
