Willmotts Transport is one of the largest independent warehousing and distribution companies in the South West, based just outside of Shepton Mallet, near Bristol. Due to continued success and growth, we are looking for a Class 1 Day Shunter to join our friendly and dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shunting & Trailer Movements
  • Safely manoeuvre Class 1 vehicles to move trailers between warehouse bays, yard locations, and workshop areas
  • Ensure all bays remain operational and loading/unloading activity is not delayed
  • Carry out regular yard checks to identify trailers requiring repositioning
  • Liaise with warehouse and transport teams to prioritise trailer movements
  • Warehouse Bay Management
  • Maintain a continuous flow of trailers in and out of loading bays
  • Ensure trailers are positioned correctly and safely for loading/unloading
  • Support warehouse teams by responding promptly to bay change requests
  • Monitor bay usage and highlight any operational delays or issues
  • Yard Operations
  • Conduct daily yard organisation to ensure a safe, tidy, and efficient working environment
  • Ensure trailers are parked in designated areas and in line with site procedures
  • Report any defective trailers or equipment to the relevant department
  • Pallet & Waste Management
  • Load and remove excess pallets from warehouse and yard areas
  • Organise and dispose of waste in accordance with company and environmental procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness of yard and external warehouse areas
  • Compliance & Safety
  • Operate vehicles in line with DVSA, driver hours, and company compliance standards
  • Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects immediately
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards at all times
  • Follow site rules, safe systems of work, and traffic management plans
  • Other Duties:
  • Assist with general warehouse or yard duties where required
  • Provide support during busy periods or operational cover
  • Undertake additional reasonable tasks in line with business needs

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Valid Class 1 (C+E) Driving Licence
  • Valid CPC and Digital Tachograph Card
  • Previous experience in a shunting or yard-based role (preferred)
  • Strong awareness of yard safety and vehicle manoeuvring
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, operational environment

  • 28 days holiday per year (including bank holidays), after 2 year's unbroken service employees will receive an additional day's holiday which will increase by an extra day (pro rata where necessary) after each additional full years' service up to a maximum of 3 days.
