This role is a Hybrid role working from home and the London or Ipswich office.

WTW is looking for an experienced lawyer based in London to advise on supplier contracting and technology matters. The successful candidate must have the ability to quickly identify, understand and advise on a wide range of legal issues. The candidate must have experience with technology and software licensing. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and negotiating third-party vendor contracts, advising on corporate technology projects, and working with business and legal colleagues on matters involving our suppliers. This role would be responsible for supporting the business from a procurement and technology perspective, be our representative on the Supplier Risk management working groups and also serve on other business and functional committees reviewing technology and vendor management issues. The successful candidate must have excellent stakeholder management skills, understand how to use a commercial and risk-based approach while also protecting the Company. This role will report to the General Counsel, Operations, Technology and Transformation and will work closely with other senior lawyers in the US and UK. Further the candidate will support the process to evaluate and prioritize work from the Procurement team. The candidate will also participate in building the ways of working between Procurement and Legal.

The Role Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serving as a business partner to the Procurement and Technology teams.
  • Assist in triaging incoming work from Procurement and Technology teams to Legal and assigning work to the appropriate resource.
  • Serve as key counsellor to senior members of the Procurement and Technology teams.
  • Work with the Lead Procurement & Technology Counsel US to create best practices and continuous improvement in the contracting process.
  • Reviewing all manner of supplier agreements – from facilities services to technology licenses, software as a service agreements and professional services such as consulting.
  • Supporting line of business colleagues and lawyers with supplier and technology contracting.
  • Acting as a point of expertise on technology contracting for the company – with the supplier and technology lawyers.
  • Monitoring and updating supplier contract templates, playbooks and guidance notes. Providing training on these areas to legal and business colleagues.
  • Liaising with and coordinating support from the appropriate Office of the General Counsel colleagues to manage or resolve legal, regulatory risks and issues.

The Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with experience of at least 8 years PQE.
  • Demonstrated track record in a law firm or in-house legal department working on commercial matters.
  • Experience of advising on technology licenses, technology contracting, and legal issues related to these matters.
  • Financial services experience.
  • Privacy experience helpful but not required.
  • Significant experience of legal issues relating to procuring any kind of goods and/or services – particularly technology and software.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in global commercial business areas – such as professional services, and/or financial services.
  • Ability to quickly identify issues and develop plans to address such issues in coordination with colleagues.
  • Ability to work closely with and influence all levels of senior management and provide strategic legal advice.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and opinions with discretion.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to see the big picture in terms of the Company’s legal and ethical obligations for the protection of its reputation.
  • Experience in managing legal matters effectively and in a manner that upholds the Company’s reputation for integrity.
  • Fluent English language and strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Highly organized with an ability to work and prioritize systematically and methodically, monitoring and managing multiple tasks to successfully meet conflicting deadlines.
