We are looking for a SDET to join our growing engineering organisation developing a wide range of market leading InsurTech solutions. You will join us at an exciting time as we focus increasingly on cloud/SaaS solutions, upgrading existing products to new technologies and modern UX, as well as developing brand-new applications. The SDET role is pivotal to the team, providing technical testing capability within the team to ensure the team can deliver rapidly with the highest levels of quality that we expect from our products. As an SDET you will work alongside other engineers as part of a close-knit Scrum team to ensure our products meet agreed levels of reliability, maintainability, usability, and performance.

The Role:

  • Define test strategies to support the development of major new features or of new applications.
  • Design, implement and document test environments and frameworks supporting the agreed strategy.
  • Work with the Product Owner to define User Stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Define technical test plans focused on extensive automation covering all levels of the test pyramid.
  • Develop unit, integration, system, and end-to-end tests in an automated fashion.
  • Develop performance, load, stress, and soak test solutions.
  • Execute a wide range of functional/non-functional tests, manual and automated.
  • Review and debug product and test code to find defects or performance bottlenecks.
  • Support the Product Owner to close stories, confirming acceptance criteria and defect fixes.
  • Analyse test data and produce test reports for relevant checkpoints or milestones.
  • Participate in Agile/scrum activities (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives), striving to continuously improve the team velocity, its processes and engineering practices.
  • Participate in software design meetings and work with software engineers to ensure testability and best practices are built into the product architecture and code.
  • Investigate new test tools/methodologies and integrate them as part of the team practices and continuous integration processes, also liaising with other teams to share knowledge and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Proven work experience in software quality assurance in technical SDET roles.
  • Significant understanding of software testing, its main concepts, and processes: different testing levels, methods and types; test estimation techniques.
  • Experience in building test frameworks from scratch, supporting testing at all levels of the testing pyramid.
  • Strong experience developing test automation solutions for web-based products.
  • Experience developing test automation solutions in .NET using C#.
  • Experience in testing and developing test automation solutions for distributed systems.
  • Experience in building performance test benchmarking solutions to support .NET solutions.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to interact with team members and stakeholders, from reproducing the reported issue to understanding how the defect has been fixed.
  • Natural curiosity with advanced analysis and problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced Agile team and environment.
  • Extensive experience of utilising continuous integration and delivery tooling.
  • Awareness of advances in engineering tooling/practice especially within the testing discipline.

Other highly desirable, but not essential skills are:

  • Hands on experience with Azure Cloud services and deployment of infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code concepts.
  • Experience with containerisation technologies including Docker, ACA, Kubernetes.
  • Experience in chaos engineering and testing tooling.
  • Experience in automated security test tooling.
  • General knowledge of the Insurance Industry.
  • Degree-educated with Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or relevant discipline.
