The Technical Claims Consultant is a senior, client-facing role responsible for the effective management and settlement of major and complex insurance claims. The position plays a pivotal role in strengthening relationships with senior internal stakeholders, insurers, and external clients, ensuring that claims outcomes align with and support clients’ broader strategic objectives.
With a strong emphasis on revenue generation, the role combines hands-on claims management with the delivery of high-value technical consultancy services, including audits, policy stress testing, scenario planning, and strategic advisory support. The role is particularly suited to professionals with deep expertise in Property Damage claims and complex loss environments.
The Role
- Providing strategic direction and leadership in the handling of major and complex losses to achieve optimal technical and commercial outcomes for clients.
- Establishing clear terms of reference at the outset of a claim, ensuring structured, efficient, and effective claims delivery.
- Partnering with Loss Management and Client Service teams to position the major loss proposition and secure client appointments.
- Preparing, presenting, and managing claims submissions to insurers, while overseeing engagement with loss adjusters, insurers, legal advisers, and other key stakeholders.
- Managing ongoing communications and negotiations with primary insurers, co‑insurers, excess layer insurers, reinsurers, and captive arrangements where applicable.
- Acting as a trusted client advocate by providing specialist technical advice and leadership within areas of expertise.
- Identifying opportunities to introduce broader WTW capabilities and services to enhance client value.
- Building and maintaining strong market relationships with insurers, loss adjusters, forensic accountants, and legal professionals to ensure a collaborative approach to major losses.
- Supporting revenue growth through the delivery of technical consultancy services such as audits, scenario testing, and policy reviews.
- Contributing to technical thought leadership via internal and external bulletins, training sessions, client academies, and learning materials.
- Working closely with claims leadership and executive stakeholders to promote continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and effective governance across major and complex claims portfolios.
Qualifications
- Significant, hands‑on experience in UK commercial insurance claims, with a strong emphasis on major and complex losses.
- Deep technical knowledge of insurance products, policy wordings, and insurance market practices.
- Proven experience in Property Damage claims within complex loss environments.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build credibility with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- A strong client advocacy approach, with a track record of delivering consistently high levels of service.
- Experience operating within structured claims processes, systems, and governance frameworks.
- Professional insurance qualifications such as ACII, CII, or CILA are preferred, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
